iSecurity Allows International Delta Galil To Closely Monitor System i (iSeries/AS400)

deltaDelta Galil, a worldwide manufacturer and provider of fashion & basic apparel, has selected iSecurity to protect their System i/AS400  environment.

And here’s what they have to say about iSecurity: “iSecurity offers us a full response to our needs as a public company committed to organized procedures – follow-up on all user access and activity,” said Ashraf Shofani, System i Manager, Delta Galil. “Furthermore, we became acquainted with the system in one day, configured it in a single session, and since then it has run automatically.”

As a public company, Delta Galil (TLV: DELT) is obligated to ensure transparency and close control of its information systems and System i environment. Accordingly, they monitor network access, perform system auditing using Firewall and Audit products, and submit user access reports.

After examining several products on the market, Delta decided on iSecurity solution, due to its ability to produce reports which are fully customized to the company’s requirements. Delta was particularly impressed with iSecurity’s easy deployment and user interface, facilitating the corporate System i security experience.

Delta’s iSecurity solution includes:
- Firewall – secures every type of network access to and from the System i.
- Password – integrates all OS/400 password management capabilities, blocking non-secure passwords.
- Screen – protects unattended terminal screens.
- Audit – reports on user activities and object access in real-time, including multi-system environments.
- Action – invokes corrective and reporting procedures for detected security breaches in other iSecurity modules, and sends emails, SMS and SYSLOG messages.
User Profile Manager – presents comprehensive information on user profiles
AP-Journal Regulation Compliance - reports on changes in application databases.

Using Firewall, the Delta team monitors all access – both internal and external – to the system, and when anyone commits a breach, the System i manager immediately gets an alert. Using Audit, the manager gets reports on the use of specific software on which Delta is obligated to report. The manager is notified whenever someone attempts to access a file or library which is blocked.

Impressions from Common '09

shmuelWe’re back from Common, the annual “meeting of the minds” for Power i experts, and would like to share our impressions.

One obvious aspect was the mark of the recession – fewer people, but a lot more professionals. Only the real Power i experts attended – which was actually good in a way, since we held more to-the-point discussions with people about essential issues.

We had an enlightening meeting with leading IBM executives (at 06:45 AM… and totally jetlagged), at which Power i was hailed as one of the more successful IBM platforms.

In this meeting, we had a fascinating discussion about the future directions of Power i. I offered my own vision: the creation of an integrated GUI, however basic, to be used by Power i staff.

Also in this meeting, IBM executives described their innovative cooperation with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Iowa State University, and Wright State University, in which students will be taught core concepts based on IBM’s Power Systems and IBM i infrastructure. This is an admirable venture which could do much to expose IT pros to Power i and promote it. I would even be happy to take part in this project myself, and I hope it expands to other countries.

We had some very productive meetings – including sessions with Jeff Uehling, IBM System i Executive, with our US business partners – SEA and Innovatum, as well as with Linda Harty, System i Network’s Executive Editor, and  Alex Woodie, IT Jungle’s Senior Editor.

There was a lot of interest in our booth and iSecurity product portfolio. Many customers stopped by our booth and described how they use our products. Our new Compliance Evaluator generated a lot of interest, and AP-Journal drew instant enthusiasm. A lot of customers asked about PCI compliance – which is a main concern for our customers.

In addition, I gave a presentation on “Tracking Application Activity via the DB-Journal: the Missing Dimension of Information Systems”, which discussed what DB-Journal offers and what it lacks, and how products like iSecurity AP-Journal cover users’ needs. The presentation was well-attended and sparked some interesting discussions.  Feel free to contact me for more info on this.

Meuhedet, a Major Israeli Health Fund, Chooses iSecurity!

meuhedet_logoMehuhedet, one of Israel’s major health funds, has selected our very own iSecurity solution for protecting its System i environment. Meuhedet’s iSecurity implementation includes Firewall, a solution supplying complete protection from infiltrations and unauthorized access, covering all relevant protocols. It also includes an IDS (Intrusion Detection System generating real time alerts) and Screen, a solution for protection of unattended workstations.

And how do they use it? First and foremost, for monitoring internal and external access to the server, blocking unauthorized users and checking problems with the entry attempts of users who have proper permissions. iSecurity also enables monitoring the entries into the system and watching the data on each entry through a user-friendly log.

What does the customer have to say about iSecurity? “iSecurity gets the job done,” said Itsik Rejiniano, a System Programmer at Meuhedet Health Fund. “It provides total protection for the server, but on the other hand, offers the user easy and effective management capabilities.”
